Our History and Mission

After much prayer and research, Latham Bible Baptist Church began the school ministry in 1979, when the church membership voted to begin Latham Christian Academy. By faith $5,000 was committed to begin this ministry in June of 1979. By September 1979, $11,000 had come in to enable this ministry to reach children in the Latham and surrounding areas. Pastor George Whitman served as President and Assistant Pastor Claude Hine was the Administrator. Thirty-two students enrolled that first year in grades K4 through Fifth.

LCA, utilizing a traditional educational format using Christian curriculum, has grown phenomenally through the years. After six years, LCA opened its doors daily to 245 students in grades K4 through Tenth. The first graduating class of Latham Christian Academy graduated in June 1987 with 18 students. In 2008 the K3 class was began with amazing success. The class was full before opening day with a waiting list.

Attendance has varied through the years at LCA along with a number of Administrators. Four men have served as senior pastor of Latham Bible Baptist Church and President of Latham Christian Academy.  After Pastor Whitman retired in 1999, Pastor Jeffrey Davoll was called as Pastor, and after Pastor Davoll was called to the mission field Pastor Dean Walter was called in 2007.  After Pastor Walter’s retirement in July 2020, God led Pastor Samuel Kupeyan to become the next senior pastor, starting in August 2021.  Latham Christian Academy has never failed to open its doors every year since it began and the Lord has supplied.
