Latham Christian Academy is concerned that every aspect of a student’s life is consistent in glorifying God. Music is likely the most controversial of all lifestyle areas. Of all of the aspects of the Christian life, music is probably the hardest to define and to agree upon. In addition, the purpose of LCA is to work hand-in-hand with the home to “train up a child in the way he should go.” This training includes character and spiritual growth as well as academic growth.
Some types of music do negatively influence a young heart and mind. LCA considers listening to this type of music to be detrimental to the spiritual, moral, and intellectual life of a young person. It does not matter if this music is called Christian, secular, or some other designation.
Therefore, the policy of LCA is to oppose all forms of music that cause a loss of spiritual sensitivity.
Tapes, CDs, pictures, magazines, emblems, and any other music paraphernalia are not to be brought to LCA. CD players or MP3 players or any other type of music reproduction equipment is not to be brought to school or used on any school sponsored activities such as sports trips or field trips. Any student bringing items related to music considered to be inconsistent with the philosophy of the school will be confiscated and returned to parents at an appropriate time.
The goal of Latham Christian Academy will be to encourage all students to immerse themselves only in the best media, including in music choices, and to fulfill the duty given in Ephesians 5:19, “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
